240 students arrived today (Sunday) at the schools and kindergartens of Sderot. This is the first swallow in the reopening of the education system in the city, in preparation for the opening of all the frameworks on March 3.
150 1st-3rd grade students came to the ‘Naria’ school, and 90 children came to three kindergarten classes in a new building in the Neat Shekma neighborhood, which will be in temporary use until February 29.
Along with the educational staff, the students were welcomed by the director of the education department Gil Hadad, who is responsible for the Ma’ayan Bar-Yohai frameworks, as well as soldiers, security guards and members of the municipal alert squad.
“It’s exciting to see students in classes in Sderot, after 4 months of studying outside the city,” said the mayor of Sderot, Alon Davidi, “The goal is to respond to parents who have already been in the city in recent weeks. We believe that in the coming weeks more families will return, and they will receive a response when the frameworks open at the beginning of March. We will continue to demand from the Ministry of Education to find solutions for all our residents, including those who choose to stay outside Sderot.”
This coming Tuesday, the Hadar school for special education will open, as well as special education kindergartens and a high school designed for the advancement of youth.
