Supporters of early elections came out on the evening of Thursday, February 22, to demonstrate in several cities in Israel and concentrated near the houses of ministers and Knesset members. The protests, which are taking place for the second week in a row, were initiated by the Koah Kaplan organization, which before the war held demonstrations against legal reform.
Protesters shouted “Elections now” and “We will not back down until the Knesset is dissolved.” Demonstrations took place near the homes of ministers Gila Gamliel, Ofir Akunis, Nir Barkat, Amichai Shikli, Yoav Galant, Yoav Kisch, Gadi Eizenkot and MPs Dani Danon and Eli Dalal.
In Jerusalem, 55-year-old demonstrator Meirav complained that a police officer pushed her outside the home of Minister Nir Barkat. She fell and injured her shoulder. According to her, the policeman refused to apologize and explained that he pushed her to save her from an oncoming car.
Demonstrators claim that after October 7, “the state is falling apart and the government is not functioning.” They believe that the best solution to the current problems is immediate elections. This opinion is shared by representatives of reservists, evacuated residents of the north and south, families of those killed and those affected by the economic crisis who support Koah Kaplan.
The Koach Kaplan organization reported: “Instead of taking responsibility for the worst tragedy in the entire history of Israel, the Prime Minister continues to incite and divide the people. His cronies promote a predatory budget, support evasion of military service and incite “against the families of kidnapped citizens. This government is motivated by considerations of political survival, and every new day they remain in power is detrimental to the war effort and the unity of the people. We need elections. We are returning to protests, because only through struggle will we achieve elections.”
