In preliminary reading, the Knesset passed a bill introduced by Otzma Judit MP Zvi Vogel, chairman of the National Security Committee.
Israeli media reported this.
This bill aims to increase penalties for transporting, housing and employing illegal migrants in accordance with amendments to the law on entry into Israel. It is proposed to introduce administrative arrests for those suspected of providing any form of assistance to persons entering Israel illegally, as well as to increase the minimum fine for this violation in order to stop the commercialization of such activities.
The basis of the bill reflects three key goals: strengthening Israeli sovereignty on its territory, preventing criminal activity and combating terrorism. Security forces indicate that a significant proportion of illegal migrants are Palestinian Arabs involved in criminal activities, including terrorist organizations.
It is known that 43 deputies voted for this bill, while 7 were against it.
Earlier, Cursor wrote that the Knesset Ministerial Committee on Legislation approved a proposal to increase penalties for attacks on medical personnel after a number of incidents that attracted media attention. The proposal would cover attacks during the provision of any form of medical care, while the current law only covers attacks during rescue operations or emergency procedures.
In addition, Cursor has already reported that Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Minister of National Security, personally approached the head of the Bureau of Prisons, Katie Perry, with a request for stricter restrictions for Palestinian prisoners.
