The head of the NDI party, Avigdor Lieberman, called for the abolition of the Knesset holidays, which are conventionally called “winter”.
The State Camp, Yesh Atid and Tikva Hadasha – New Hope factions announced their support for the initiative put forward by Lieberman. The Knesset holiday is scheduled for April 7 and will last six weeks until Independence Day, which falls on May 19. However, there is a possibility that they may be cancelled.
Avigdor Lieberman addressed this proposal several times to the Speaker of the Knesset and also published it on his page on the social network “X” (Twitter).
“The Knesset has been unable to declare a break in work for almost two months while the country is burning. While shooting continues in the cities of the North and South, while 134 hostages remain in captivity by Hamas, and tens of thousands of people evicted from the border zone are refugees in their own country. The Knesset cannot rest while our soldiers are fighting in the Gaza Strip and the dispute over the Conscription Law is not resolved,” Lieberman wrote.
Lieberman received support from the Tikva Hadasha (Gideon Saar), Yesh Atid (Yair Lapid) and State Camp (Benny Gantz) factions, but the initiative has not yet been officially considered.
Earlier, Cursor wrote that unpleasant incidents recently occurred in the Knesset during hearings on the issue of conscripting Haredim into the army. During the altercation in the Knesset, opposition member Gilad Kariv made insulting comments about Gottlieb, calling her “insolent” and demanding that she “bow her head to the families.”
