Rafael Leao won’t be involved in Portugal’s international friendly against Slovenia, so he will immediately return to Milan.
The Portuguese star scored a goal in a 5-2 win over Sweden on Thursday night and has been allowed to leave his national team on Friday.
As reported by Sky Sport Italia on X, formerly Twitter, Leao will immediately return to Milan. The Portugal national team’s decision is not caused by an injury but is a technical choice that has involved other key squad members, including Manchester City stars Bernardo Silva and Rúben Dias and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes.
Correspondent from Milanello Peppe Di Stefano hinted that these Portugal players had a friendly agreement with coach Roberto Martinez who let them return to their clubs after the first international friendly in March.
Leao has ten goals and 11 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions with Milan this season.
The Rossoneri play the next Serie A game away at Fiorentina on March 30.
Leao, 24, made his senior Portugal debut in October 2021 and has netted four times in 24 matches with his national team. Thursday’s goal against Sweden was his first one at an international level in one year.
