Against the backdrop of preparations for the military operation in Rafah and its criticism from the international community, IDF spokesman Brigadier General Daniel Hagari issued a special statement in English on the evening of Sunday, April 28. He said that in recent weeks the amount of humanitarian aid being delivered to Gaza has increased significantly and will continue to increase in the coming days.
“More aid is coming to Gaza than ever before. We intend to expand special humanitarian zones in the strip,” he said. According to him, the amount of aid coming from Jordan through Israel has been increased, an additional border checkpoint has been opened in the north of the Strip and permission has been issued to open dozens of bakeries in the north and south of the Gaza Strip.
Responding to criticism of Israel in the world and the threat of international arrest warrants against representatives of the country’s top political and military leadership, Hagari denied accusations of violating international norms of warfare.
“The IDF is acting in accordance with international law and making great efforts to reduce the number of civilian casualties behind which Hamas terrorists are hiding,” said an army spokesman. “We consider the suffering of the Gazans a tragedy, while Hamas considers this suffering as part of our strategy. We will still continue to pursue Hamas throughout the Gaza Strip. We will continue to do everything possible to return the hostages and to liberate Gaza from Hamas.”
