Bournemouth’s Alex Scott Set to Miss More Than Six Weeks of Action Due to Injury
English midfielder Alex Scott is facing a prolonged absence from the pitch after undergoing surgery on a torn knee cartilage. The talented England Under-21 international initially felt pain in training after starting in last weekend’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Arsenal.
Manager Andoni Iraola alluded to a longer rehabilitation period, stating that it would likely take more than six weeks for Scott to recover. Although the initial estimate was pegged at six weeks, Iraola revealed that the decision to repair rather than remove the damaged cartilage will extend his absence.
“It will definitely be more than six weeks,” Iraola said. “Six weeks was probably if they removed the meniscus. If they repair it, you have to wait more because now he has to have some time without doing anything. It will be more (time) – but I don’t know how much.”
The bad news is compounded by the fact that forward Luis Sinisterra will also be out of action due to a minor issue, leaving Bournemouth’s manager with a deeper hole to fill.
Despite these challenges, Iraola remains optimistic, focusing on the team’s impressive display against Arsenal earlier this month. He believes that his side may need to match or exceed that performance level to avoid defeat against Aston Villa, who are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League and have a thriving Champions League campaign under manager Unai Emery.
“Aston Villa, they are playing very, very, very well,” Iraola emphasized. “They are having great results, they come on a great run of performances and results. For sure, they are very dangerous. We have to be at the same level we were against Arsenal – or better – if we want to take something from the game.”
