As Crystal Palace’s disappointing start to the Premier League season continues to raise eyebrows, the future of manager Oliver Glasner is hanging precariously in the balance. The club has already assembled a shortlist of potential candidates to replace him, should the worst continue to unravel.
According to sources close to the club, the list includes the likes of Graham Potter, who former managed Brighton and Chelsea, David Moyes, who has had stints at Everton, Manchester United, and West Ham, and Gareth Southgate, who led England to the 2018 World Cup final. It’s a baptism by fire, to say the least, for any of these managers, should they be called upon to restore some sense of normalcy to Selhurst Park.
Given the present state of affairs, it’s little wonder that Palace find themselves mired in the relegation zone, with only three points from as many matches. It’s their worst start to a season since 1992/93, and one of only four teams yet to register a win in the top flight. The pressure must be mounting on Glasner, who will be desperate to turn things around before the November international break.
For now, he will have a chance to right the ship, facing stiff tests against Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, and bottom-side Wolverhampton Wanderers away. A convincing win against Fulham in their next match at home would be a solid starting point, but anything less may well seal his fate. With so much uncertainty shrouding his position, it’s a make-or-break period for Glasner to prove his doubters wrong.
