The new Europa League format for the 2024-25 season brings an exciting development in European club football. The 36 participating teams have been organized into a single ranking, with each side playing a total of 8 matches – 4 at home and 4 away – which will determine their next phase of competition.
The top eight teams in the ranking will directly qualify for the knockout phase, which will start from the round of 16. The teams that finish between 9th and 24th place will enter the playoff phase, where they will be paired in a double-round-trip direct elimination match, with the top 8 advancing to the round of 16. The bottom 8 teams, on the other hand, will be eliminated from the competition, but not relegated to the Conference League, instead, their European journey will come to an end.
In the event that two or more teams are tied on points, the determining factors will not be the result of direct clashes, since not all teams will play each other twice, and each match will be a single leg, not a home-and-away tie. Instead, a series of tiebreakers were established, including goal difference, goals scored, number of wins, number of away wins, points earned by opponents, goal difference of opponents, and number of goals scored by opponents. The score total disciplinary UEFA coefficient will also be taken into account.
The ranking will be updated live and at the end of each match, each day, providing fans with a clear picture of their favorite team’s performance and chances of advancing to the next phase. As the competition unfolds, we will be keeping a close eye on the results, providing expert analysis and insights, and we encourage our readers to stay tuned for the latest news, updates, and player news from the world of European club football.
