The future of Mario Balotelli in Serie A is hanging in the balance as various meetings take place in Genoa. The player’s CEO, Andres Blazquez, will meet with the team’s technical staff, led by Alberto Gilardino, and then with Balotelli’s entourage to make a final decision on the 30-year-old’s contract. A deal worth €250,000 plus bonuses is already on the table until the end of the season, but the green light has yet to be given.
According to Genoa’s president, Alberto Zangrillo, the choice is not solely his to make. Speaking on the sidelines of the Lega Serie A Assembly, Zangrillo confirmed that he has communicated his positive opinion on the deal to Blazquez. Zangrillo expressed a “romantic” preference for the signing, but emphasized that a technical evaluation was also necessary. “You know well that it doesn’t depend on me,” Zangrillo said. “What I said in recent days is clear, I only expressed a romantic dream. But then this dream must also respond to a technical indication, and in this case, it’s not up to me to say it. At the moment, I know as much as you, and we’ll talk about it at the exit, maybe there’s news.”
As the suspense builds, it remains to be seen whether Balotelli will don a Serie A jersey once again. For now, the decision falls into the hands of the interested parties, and only time will tell if the charismatic forward will take the field in the coming weeks.
