Lucca, the rare gem of Italian football
Paolo Maldini, a manager who has seen it all, once described Lucca as “a center forward from another era.” The likes of Luciano Spalletti, another astute football observer, is also a fan of Lucca’s, and is eager to sign him for the present and the future. Meanwhile, Juventus, one of the biggest clubs in Italy, is quietly monitoring Lucca’s progress, eyeing the Udinese striker as a potential solution to their goal-scoring problems.
Juventus’ Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, has made it clear that the club will be active in the January transfer market, and Lucca is high on their wish list. The 24-year-old has been in scintillating form, scoring 8 goals in the last Serie A campaign, and his talent has not gone unnoticed. Pisa, the club where Lucca briefly played before joining Udinese, is currently holding onto a resale clause, and will be entitled to a tidy sum of 870,000 euros if and when Lucca is sold to Juventus.
The question on everyone’s lips is, however, whether Lucca will be able to resist the advances of Juventus, or will Udinese be able to hold onto their prized asset? The answer, as always, lies with the player himself. Will he choose to continue his development at Udinese, or take the leap to Juventus, and potentially win the Scudetto with the Bianconeri? Only time will tell.
