Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that the surprise selection of Sofyan Amrabat, a midfielder, to play in a new position did not affect his plans.
Mourinho, known for his tactical acumen, claims that Amrabat’s versatility was always a consideration. “The situation with Maz, for you was maybe a big surprise,” he said, “but not for us because Sofyan Amrabat told me Maz can play in this position.”
Amrabat himself has revealed that his ability to play in several positions helped shape his career. In an interview with Inside United, he spoke about his early days in Ajax’s senior team, where he played for multiple positions. “Yeah, I was a midfielder and then, for the second team, I played one season in every position. From left-winger to central defender in the next game,” he said. “So I’ve played everywhere and that is what really helped me now. I don’t feel like ‘what do I have to do over here?’ I just know what to do with it because I’ve played already in every position so that really helped me a lot.”
