United Seek First European Win of 2024/25 Against Fenerbahce
United’s quest for a first European win of the 2024/25 season continued to stall, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente at Old Trafford and a thrilling 3-3 draw in Porto three weeks ago. While the Red Devils have shown glimpses of excitement, they still remain searching for their first win in the competition.
A victory against Fenerbahce on Thursday would not only bring an end to this drought but also give United a chance to overtake the Turkish club in the table. Fenerbahce, managed by former Reds boss Jose Mourinho, have been nothing short of impressive, beating Union Saint-Gilloise and drawing with Twente in their earlier fixtures.
Mourinho, a manager known for his cunning tactics and ability to get the best out of his players, will undoubtedly look to use his experience to his advantage. He will also be able to call upon two familiar faces in Fred and Sofyan Amrabat, both of whom have spent time at Old Trafford in the past.
While Fenerbahce has a number of recognizable names throughout their squad, captain Edin Dzeko, a former Manchester City striker, is certainly one to keep an eye on. The Turkish club have also signed former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin during the transfer window, while Dusan Tadic, the former Southampton playmaker, is another exiled talent who has won several trophies under Ten Hag’s guidance at Ajax.
