The ban will apply to a limited list of essential goods, which will be published later. However, as reported by Davar, the Ministry of Finance is against this decision.
However, the law, previously proposed by MP David Bitan, gives the authority to the Office of Consumer Protection to impose fines on entrepreneurs who, without reason, inflate the prices of goods from the list prepared by the Ministry of Finance, compared to the prices of these goods three months before the introduction of the decree .
At a meeting of the Knesset Economic Committee on January 13, Committee Chairman David Bitan criticized the Finance Ministry for its inaction in the face of rising prices, emphasizing that citizens need to be offered more than just arguments about the need for competition. He also said he would push for a differentiated VAT bill and intended to remove the Treasury from wartime price controls.
Previously, Cursor reported that Tempo announced an upcoming increase in prices for alcoholic beverages, which will come into force in February 2025. According to the published price list, the increase in product costs will be up to 6%.
Among the brands whose prices will increase are popular Barkan wines, whose price will increase by 4-6%, Chivas Regal whiskey – by 3.9%, Absolut vodka – by 2.9%, as well as Glenlivet whiskey, whose price will also increase by 2.9%. At the same time, Beluga vodka will remain at the same price.
