When she’s not railing against voter integrity efforts or denying the results of her own gubernatorial elections, Georgia’s Stacey Abrams is apparently heading up non-profits with an extensive rap sheet of violating campaign finance laws.

The New Georgia Project, a nonprofit organization founded by Stacey Abrams in 2013, has agreed to pay a record fine of $300,000 for violating their state’s campaign finance laws.

The Georgia Ethics Commission imposed the fine after discovering that the organization and its affiliated New Georgia Project Action Fund failed to disclose campaign contributions and expenditures during the 2018 Georgia governor’s race, where Abrams was the Democratic candidate.

The organizations were accused of not properly reporting their financial activities in support of Abrams’ campaign, leading to the unanimous decision by the commission to levy the penalty.

“These expenditures included, but were not limited to, canvassing activities, literature expressly advocating for the election of candidates, social media engagement, and operating field offices with paid staff where those electioneering activities were organized,” the commission’s consent order reads.

In other words, her non-profit was spending money on her political campaign.

Executive director David Emadi described the fine as “significant” but “also appropriate given the scope.”

The group admitted to 16 campaign finance violations in all.

Stacey Abrams Non-Profit Troubles

The commission revealed that Stacey Abrams’ non-profit had been slapped with the most significant fine ever doled out by the group.

According to the signed consent order, the groups neglected to report $4.2 million in contributions in the 2018 election cycle and an additional $3.2 million in expenditures to support Abrams’ gubernatorial campaign and promote candidates for various state offices during the primary and general elections.

So they spent $7.4 million and were only fined $300,000.

Imagine that. At least it was all for a good cause since Abrams won that election for Georgia governor … in her own mind.

Abrams has been portrayed as a darling of the Democrat Party despite having lost her bid to become Governor of the Peach State twice.

She very famously and publicly refused to concede defeat in 2018 despite receiving nearly 55,000 fewer votes. In 2019, Abrams told supporters at a luncheon in Houston that she wasn’t “delusional” mere moments after declaring “we won” the Georgia gubernatorial race.

One of our favorite moments from .@staceyabrams in #Houston for .@AnniesListTX while speaking about keeping up the fight: “usually candidates feel like they have to concede if they want to run for office again to show that they’re a good sport. I am not a good sport.” pic.twitter.com/SHOstTIWMA

Distancing Herself

The campaign finance issues came to light through a complaint filed in 2019 before Raphael Warnock, who led the New Georgia Project at the time, was elected as a U.S. Senator.

During his tenure, Warnock stated that his role did not include oversight of compliance decisions.

Funny, Stacey Abrams didn’t want to be associated with the non-profit she founded either, issuing a statement through a spokesperson to the New York Times.

“Stacey hasn’t been involved in the organization’s work since she departed in 2017,” the spokesperson said.

Or rather, she hasn’t been involved since becoming a two-term Governor of Georgia.
