200 cadets of the year of service and pre-military training programs demonstrated in front of the Knesset during a discussion in the National Security Committee of the Knesset on the early recruitment of 850 of them, and 450 more from settlement meetings.
This is the second discussion on the issue held in the Knesset, after last Thursday a discussion was held in the IDF Human Resources Subcommittee. Early last week, the Youth Movement Council sent a letter to Defense Minister Yoav Galant and called on him to retract his decision.
The demonstrators protested the expected division, which includes the recruitment of seminary students even in their first year, who are discriminated against compared to Seder yeshiva students. Among the chants heard at the demonstration: “Demand fair recruitment” and “preparatory and years of service – demand equality and responsibility”.
MK Gilad Karib (Labor), the chairman of the state education lobby, came out to the demonstrators and told them: “The trainees of the pre-military preparatory schools and the service year frameworks postponed their conscription for a year in order to volunteer in Israeli society. It is not possible for the army to preempt a large number of them from The recruitment for the middle of the year, while their friends and girlfriends, who are in other settings, will not have to advance the recruitment only for political and sectoral reasons.
“There will not be a situation in which there will be a serious harm to the preparatory courses and the frameworks of the service year, but in the Zionist yeshiva and the settlement yeshiva they will not demand the same demand from them. The answers we receive from the Ministry of Defense and the IDF in this matter are unsatisfactory and unacceptable, and we will continue to fight within the Knesset together with the comrades The goddesses, who are the future of Israeli society.”
