Ten or 20 years ago, telling someone you had a flip phone usually meant you were older and boring, but things have changed quite drastically since then. Nowadays, foldable phones are the height of technology, like the Z Flip 5, which is not only one of the best foldables out there but also one of our favorite models. Of course, that does mean it comes with a premium price tag, though at a $1,000 starting price, it’s actually not that bad, given how some of the first iterations cost more than twice that. Unfortunately, there aren’t a ton of great bargains on the Z Flip 5 right now, but there are a couple of direct deals as well as some substantial trade-in offers.
This story is part of Samsung EventCNET’s collection of news, tips and advice around Samsung’s most popular products.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is one of the hottest devices in mobile tech right now, and it’s a great buy even at full price. With a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a larger 3.4-inch outer display and a 6.7-inch foldable inner display, you’re going to get a lot of phone for your money, and it’s a notable upgrade over the older Galaxy Z Flip 4.
What colors does the Galaxy Z Flip 5 come in?
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes in a ton of colors, although some are Samsung-exclusive. Every retailer should offer graphite, lavender, cream and mint. Those looking to pick up a new Galaxy Z Flip 5 in gray, blue, green or yellow have to buy directly from Samsung.
How much does the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cost?
The starting prices for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US, before any trade-ins or discounts, are as follows:
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 (256GB): $1,000Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 (512GB): $1,120

Samsung hasn’t dropped its starting price on the Z Flip 5, but you can save up to $600 when you trade in your old phone. Recent models from Apple, Samsung and Google will net you the biggest discount, but even old phones will score you at least $200 in savings. Nearly all colors, including the Samsung exclusive colors, are currently in stock in both the 256GB and 512GB models.
Carriers are also offering extra savings when you purchase your new phone through Samsung. AT&T customers will save up to $1,000 with an eligible trade-in and purchase on an installment plan, while Verizon customers will save up to $600 with a trade-in (as long as they have or switch to an eligible unlimited plan). T-Mobile customers can save $1,000 with a new line when they trade in an eligible device. It’s worth noting that for all three of these carrier offers, the only current phone in stock on Samsung’s website is the 256GB in graphite.
Samsung is also offering some additional savings on other devices when bundled with this purchase, including $50 off a Galaxy Watch 6 and $60 off a pair of Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
You can save $100 on all unlocked configurations of the Z Flip 5 right now at Best Buy, which drops the 256GB model to $900 and the 512GB model to $1,020. You can save even more if you have an old phone to trade in, up to $450.
Verizon customers can get enhanced trade-in credit, which can save them up to $1,000 as long as they have — or switch to — an eligible unlimited plan.
Like Best Buy, Amazon is offering $100 off the 256GB version of the Z Flip 5, which drops the starting price to $900. Amazon also has its own trade-in program, which lets you save up to $401 in exchange for your old phone.
If T-Mobile is your carrier of choice, there are five options:

Newer phones will get you on the top end of the trade-in price, as always. Payment or discount is given out as 24 monthly bill credits.
When you purchase a Galaxy Z Flip 5 from AT&T on an installment plan and trade in an eligible phone, you can get up to $1,000 back in monthly bill credits over 36 months, which will get you the 215GB Galaxy Z Flip essentially for free.
You can bundle with Galaxy Buds2 or Galaxy Buds2 Pro and get 50% off the price of the earbuds. Just add both items to your cart to get the discount.
New and existing customers can score some Z Flip 5 savings at Verizon. If you’re adding a new line of service on a qualifying 5G unlimited plan, you can save up to $1,000 with an eligible trade-in, which scores you the basic 256GB model for free. If you’re an existing Verizon customer who qualifies for an upgrade, you can still save up to $800 with just a trade-in.
Verizon is also offering some other bonuses, including $350 off a Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and up to $550 Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE 5G, although you’ll need a new line of service for these devices.
