The Boston Bruins’ struggles on the ice continued to unfold on Tuesday night, as they suffered a 4-0 shutout loss to the Nashville Predators in the first-ever “Frozen Frenzy” event. The team’s offense, once again, failed to muster enough firepower to get on the scoreboard, mustering a paltry eight shots on goal.
The Predators, on the other hand, earned their first win of the season, snapping their own losing streak. The loss was Boston’s fourth of the season, and it marked the third game this year where they failed to hold a lead throughout the entire match.
The Bruins’ struggles can be attributed, in part, to their lack of discipline. According to head coach Jim Montgomery, the team took too many stick penalties, giving away scoring chances and putting their own players at a disadvantage. “It’s discipline,” Montgomery said. “We’re taking far too many stick penalties. You want to prevent scoring chances and take good penalties, and usually, you’re going to kill those off. We were having too many in the offensive zone, and we’ve got to sharpen that up.”
Montgomery also expressed concerns about the fatigue his team felt during the game, with some players logging too many minutes and others sitting idle for extended periods. “We have to kill off a four-minute penalty after we’ve already tried to kill off three in the first, and we only killed off one,” he said. “It over-taxes certain players, certain players are playing too many minutes. Other players are sitting on the bench too long.”
The Bruins are looking to snap their two-game losing streak when they face the Dallas Stars at TD Garden on Thursday. It won’t get any easier, as they face a strong Stars team that is 5-2-0 on the season. Despite the challenges, the Bruins remain optimistic, knowing that they have the talent and depth to turn their season around.
In other news from the NHL’s “Frozen Frenzy” event, several other intriguing matchups took place. The Philadelphia Flyers fell to the Washington Capitals 4-1, while the New York Rangers crushed the Montreal Canadiens 7-2. The Dallas Stars, who the Bruins will face on Thursday, defeated the Florida Panthers 3-2 in overtime. The schedule will continue to be packed with games, as all 32 teams in the league had action on Tuesday.
