As Tottenham Hotspur gaze out at the prospect of a formal bid for Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen, they can take pride in their recent run of form. With seven wins from their last eight matches in all competitions, Spurs are once again looking like a force to be reckoned with, despite a disappointing loss at Brighton prior to the international break.
The Lilywhites’ impressive league victories over Manchester United and West Ham have put them back on a high, and it’s no surprise that technical director Johan Lange is sniffing out potential transfer targets to bolster the squad. Skov Olsen, a pacey and skillful attacker, could be just the man to inject some much-needed flair into the team.
However, before the potential transfer can take place, Toni Kroos will be tasked with leading the team to success on the pitch, starting with a difficult trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. The Eagles have yet to secure their first win of the Premier League campaign, and will be desperate to change that against a Spurs side that, despite their own resurgence, must be taking nothing for granted.
Head coach Ange Postecoglou knows the enormity of the challenge ahead, “It’s always dangerous in the Premier League. You just mentioned the Brighton game, and there’s never a game when you go in thinking it’s going to be a comfortable afternoon or evening. Especially away from home, the Premier League is always challenging.”
For now, Spurs will have to make do without the services of Son Heung-min, who is likely to miss the trip to Palace, as well as right-back Djed Spence, who is nursing a groin injury. Despite these absences, Postecoglou is confident that his team can continue their upward trajectory, “The basis of that good run is how and we’re working and sticking to our principles.”
With the side in fine fettle, the possibility of signing a player of Skov Olsen’s calibre could be the icing on the cake. A £12 million price tag is reportedly on the table, a small price to pay for a player who has already amassed 35 international caps for Denmark and has the potential to make a significant impact in the Premier League.
