With much of the team having travelled to Lithuania for the UEFA Youth League meeting with FK Zalgiris in midweek, United showed resilience in the second half. Despite tiring legs, our young Reds defended well, putting in several excellent blocks to keep the hosts at bay, while continuing to carve out some opportunities.
Ennis wrapped up the victory with a fine team goal four minutes from time. Dermot Mee passed out from his area to Finley McAllister, who turned smoothly to play Ennis in. The wide forward came inside to beat several players before pulling off a placed shot into the bottom corner.
Coach Travis Binnion reflected on the match, saying, “We deserved the win. We had a lot of chances in the first half and I thought we could have come in two or three goals up at half-time and it would have been fully deserved. But we didn’t. Despite not taking the chances we had, our team showed great character in the second half to get the win.”
