A terrorist attack in Israel, which was being prepared by IS supporters from Jerusalem, was foiled

The police and the General Security Service (Shin Bet) prevented terrorist attacks that were being prepared by two terrorists, supporters of the Islamic State (IS) group, residents of the Jable Mukabr area in East Jerusalem. Information about this was cleared for publication on Thursday, January 11.

According to investigators, the terrorists planned to assemble explosive devices to attack Israeli security forces. It was established that the two suspects collected and viewed a lot of materials on the Internet and the Telegram messenger about the actions of the Islamic State, including recordings of the most bloody terrorist crimes and videos of murders in different combat areas.

In the near future, both detainees will be charged in court in the case of planning terrorist attacks using explosive devices.

The investigation into suspicions of planning terrorist attacks against security forces in the eastern part of the capital lasted several weeks and was carried out jointly by the Shin Bet and the central police department of the Jerusalem District. The first to be detained was a 23-year-old resident of Jable Mukabra, and after some time his 21-year-old friend, living in the same area, was taken into custody.

Investigators managed to collect evidence to bring charges; the investigation materials were transferred to the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court. Both detainees remain in custody.

Representatives of the investigation team clarified that shortly before the arrest, the defendants in the case began preparing for terrorist attacks, “studying methods of creating explosive devices and other means that they intended to use for attacks.”

During the search, operatives seized the mobile phone of one of the terrorists. Materials of a pedophilic nature were found in it, which served as the basis for initiating an additional criminal case.
