The war cabinet will discuss the results of the summit held in Paris with the participation of Mossad head Dedi Barnea and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar with Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamal and Qatar prime minister Muhammad al-Thani. CIA chief William Burns also participated in the meeting.
The Prime Minister’s Office said: “The meeting was defined as constructive. There are still significant gaps, in which the parties will continue to discuss this week in additional mutual meetings.”
The New York Times report thatThere is a draft agreement that incorporates proposals from Israel and Hamas from the past few days, which is the basis for an agreement that may be signed “in the next two weeks”. According to the report, as part of the agreement, more than a hundred kidnapped people who are still being held captive will be released, thousands of terrorists will be released and there will be a two-month ceasefire.
American officials told The Times that “although there are still important disputes that need to be resolved, mediators are cautiously optimistic that a final agreement is within reach.” Israeli officials expressed pessimism regarding the report and said that it “perhaps reflects wishful thinking on the part of the Americans or an attempt to create the appearance of a deal. I wish it were true, but unfortunately this is not the case. Israel is not known for any flexibility in the position of Hamas, which continues to insist on the cessation of hostilities as a condition for the deal and has hardened the his positions”.
