Bayern Munich Midfielder Kimmich Doesn’t Rule Out Barcelona Move
Joshua Kimmich, the Bayern Munich midfielder, has not ruled out the possibility of a transfer to Barcelona after his contract with the Bavarian giants expires next summer. Kimmich, 29, has had a testing campaign under Thomas Tuchel, often playing out of position as a right-back, and Bayern’s failure to win a single piece of silverware this season has raised doubts over his future.
However, new coach Vincent Kompany has restored Kimmich to his preferred central midfield role, and the German international says he is focused on his current duties. “In football, you can never rule anything out,” Kimmich noted in an interview with Marca ahead of Bayern’s Champions League trip to Barcelona. “To answer directly, I’m not thinking about that right now… but you can’t rule anything out in football.”
When asked about his contract situation, Kimmich was tight-lipped, citing that he and the club discusssuch matters internally. “Everyone knows that, what I discuss with the club is something internal, and I don’t share it with anyone,” he said. Still, the possibility of a move to Barcelona remains a rumor, with the Catalan giants having been linked to him earlier this season as a potential replacement for Frenkie de Jong.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Kimmich spoke glowingly of the Barcelona legacy, insisting that playing against the club is always a special experience. “Playing against Barca is always something very special,” he said. “I know that people have talked about me a few times, but it doesn’t make it any more special for that. It’s an important club with a very successful tradition.”
Kimmich also lauded the impact that Barcelona and the Spanish national team have had on his career. “Barca had a great impact on me, and so did the Spanish national team,” he said. “They won three major tournaments. Xavi Hernandez was my idol when I was little, I loved watching his games, and when Pep [Guardiola] was the coach, it was a small revolution to see how they dominated their rivals.”
As interest in Kimmich’s future continues to simmer, one thing is clear: the midfielder’s options remain open, and a potential move to Barcelona remains a possibility. Only time will tell if he will don the famous Blaugrana shirt in the future.
