Inter President Beppe Marotta spoke to the press ahead of the Nerazzurri’s match against Young Boys in the Champions League, expressing his thoughts on the team’s chances and the future plans for the new stadium at San Siro. “The synthetic pitch is certainly very treacherous, let’s hope no one gets hurt. Our players are not used to it, it is a peculiarity that must be respected but sooner or later UEFA must intervene. A synthetic pitch can lead to problems and damage,” Marotta said.
He also discussed the team’s lineup, saying, “The squad has a large staff with important values, the coach decides who to play, we have some defections and it is right to apply the turnover.”
Regarding the new stadium, Marotta noted that it is a historic moment, with two ministers, the mayor of Milan, and the two owners coming together at the table. “Politics also considers it important to accelerate the process, Oaktree sees the stadium as a strategic asset that can generate new revenues and a great sense of belonging and loyalty, guaranteeing a modern facility that has other activities during the week. I imagine the new house to be welcoming, modern and above all in the San Siro area, the most beautiful in Milan.”
Marotta also touched on the upcoming match against Juventus, saying, “No, no worries. The Derby d’Italia has a particular involvement, but I don’t think it is decisive for winning the championship. Tonight we will have some dangers against an unpredictable, valuable team. We need the mental attitude to deal with this type of team in the right way.”
Finally, as he left the press conference, Marotta noted that he was calm because the players who go on the pitch are valuable, and stressed that they must not underestimate the opponent who plays on a synthetic surface.
