Christian Eriksen’s Future at Manchester United Hangs in the Balance

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has acknowledged that his future at Old Trafford is out of his hands, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. The 32-year-old Dane has established himself as a key player under Erik ten Hag, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in his two campaigns at the club.

Injuries to other squad members have opened up regular starting opportunities for Eriksen, but he is still awaiting an update on his future. “It’s not really up to me when my contract runs out, it’s up to the club,” he said. “I am enjoying it here. When the summer comes if the offer is there, I will definitely take it seriously.”

Eriksen’s agent recently confirmed that the midfielder is happy to stay at United, but there were reports of interest from several clubs, including Real Betis, Ajax, and Anderlecht. The Europa League tie against Fenerbahce on Thursday will provide Eriksen with an opportunity to impress, with Bruno Fernandes suspended and fellow midfielders Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, and Mason Mount all struggling with injuries.

Eriksen has a bond with Fenerbahce’s manager, Jose Mourinho, who he played under for a brief period at Tottenham before forcing a move to Inter in 2020. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Eriksen is focused on the present, with a chance to make a mark on Thursday’s Europa League clash.
