An Oklahoma woman has been arrested for abandoning her baby at a Florida casino on Christmas Eve.
The infant was left in a stroller at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino by three men, who the mother refused to identify.
Rubi Verduzco, 29, has been charged with two counts of felony child neglect without great bodily harm for the abandonment.
Police were called to the hotel after a report that a baby with a soiled diaper had been left unattended in a stroller at the front desk for approximately 30 minutes.
The baby was dropped off by the three men, who immediately left the casino.
“Approximately 15 minutes after the police arrived, Verduzco reportedly appeared,” Fox 5 reports. “She allegedly told officers she had fought with the child’s father and left the baby with unnamed friends. Officers noted, she appeared very intoxicated, displaying bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol.”
The Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of the baby.
“According to the arrest report, Verduzco was arrested because she did not know with whom, where, or for how long she had left her baby. Police said she was identified through her Oklahoma medical marijuana card,” the report adds.
Verduzco appeared before a judge on December 26 and was released on $2,500 bond.
No information about the baby’s condition has been publicly released.
