HealthTap, a virtual healthcare provider, launched its Direct Virtual Primary Care for Organizations program on Monday. It allows employers and other cost-sharing organizations to provide virtual primary care without the complications of traditional insurance.

Sunnyvale, California-based HealthTap provides primary care across all 50 states in partnership with payers, pharmacies, providers, cost-sharing organizations and more.

With the new direct virtual primary care program, members get ongoing access to a primary care doctor of their choosing through video visits and messaging. They can also receive annual wellness visits, urgent care and mental health services supervised by the primary care physician. In addition, the program leverages AI tools, including AI-powered patient intake.

The direct virtual primary care offering has flexible payment options for employers, including a flat membership fee per member or based on utilization (such as a fee per visit).

HealthTap’s Co-founder and CEO, Sean Mehra, said the company is launching Direct Virtual Primary Care for Organizations for a few reasons.

“First, nearly a third of Americans lack access to primary care, and without it, health suffers and costs rise,” he said in an email. “Secondly, while many have a level of access, seeing a primary care doctor often comes with a ton of friction, whether that’s long appointment wait times, geographic distance to travel to a doctor, or similar. Our Direct Virtual Primary Care for Organizations is designed to change that.”

The launch of the program comes on the heels of the recent passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which allows employers to fund direct primary care memberships without compromising employees’ eligibility for Health Savings Accounts.

To track the success of the new program, HealthTap is following several key metrics, including return-to-same-doctor rates, patient retention, time to first visit, member satisfaction and wait times.

“We also look at the broader impact on our partners: improved health outcomes that lead to fewer downstream costs, strong partner retention and expansion interest—which tells us we’re delivering real value,” Mehra added. “That includes tracking clinical quality and outcomes, such as completion of preventive screenings, follow-through on lab orders, and progression through treatment plans.”

HealthTap has already achieved some positive results with initial partners of the program, including Christian Healthcare Ministries, which it began working with in January. With this organization, 96% of members who started with a primary care doctor through HealthTap returned to the same provider.

“Working with HealthTap has been an incredibly positive experience, helping solidify value for our members,” said Charity C. Beall, vice president and CFO of Christian Healthcare Ministries, in a statement. “The HealthTap team is responsive, steady and kind, and truly invested in our mission, offering practical support including nutrition and lifestyle changes that empower our members to thrive. We’re looking forward to growing our partnership to drive members toward building long-term relationships with a primary care doctor.”
