The Irish airline Ryanair received a record fine from a Spanish regulator of 107.7 million euros. The reason is the illegal charging of the board for manual luggage. This was reported by EL PAís.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs of Spain demanded that the company cancel the policy according to which passengers should pay even for modest hand luggage. Representatives of the regulator called this violation “illegal”.
In response, Ryanair stated that its model allows customers to “avoid unnecessary surcharges”. However, similar complaints have already been considered in Portugal, Italy and France.
As a result, the company will be obliged to compensate to passengers damage. In July and August, the sizes of allowed hand luggage on Ryanair flights will increase – without an additional fee.
New dimensions of hand luggage will be 40 × 20 × 30 cm. This is 5 cm deeper than before, and 4 liters more volume.
The penalty was imposed against the background of the preparation of the legislation of the European Union, which should completely cancel the fee for manual treasury.
Earlier, the Chairman of the German Union of Consumer Protection Ramon Pop said:
“Companies are deceiving customers, indicating a false ticket price. This distorts competition.”
She emphasized that a collective complaint was filed against several low -cost airlines. According to her, “a large -scale European campaign begins,” the purpose of which is to change the rules in the field of civil aviation.
