Holidays on the threshold: how the Israelis plan to cope with large expenses


The new survey shows that residents of the country are looking for different ways to save before Tishrey’s holidays. The main factor when choosing a store for 42% of respondents is a low price. Another 24% prefer networks with favorable promotions. The study conducted the Office of the Peninsula for the Protection of Consumer Rights with the help of the Institute of Geocardography. 501 people over 18 years old participated in it, the sample is representative for the population of Israel.

86% of respondents noted that the festive basket has risen in price compared to last year. Almost half believes that shares in supermarkets are unprofitable. 53% admitted that they make basic purchases a week or ten days before the holiday.

The survey also revealed the habits of buyers. 40% share purchases between several networks to reduce costs. 56% make a list in advance. About a third compare prices via the Internet and special applications. 84% have discount cards, while almost half use them precisely on the eve of the holidays.

The financial situation of the majority remains tense. 72% reported an increase in family expenses for the year, including 20% ​​- more than 2 thousand shekels. In 44%, the income level has not changed. 77% admitted that price growth increased their psychological stress.

The head of the Department of Histadrut to Protection of Consumer Rights, lawyer Yaron Levinson, emphasized: “Holidays are approaching, expenses are growing, and the cost of life costs continues. It is not surprising that the majority feels stress. ” He urged to buy only the necessary, compare prices, avoid impulsive decisions and carefully read the terms of the shares.
