OH, NOW IT’S A PROBLEM: The New Yorker’s David Remnick Laments the Indictment of James Comey

One of the side effects that the Comey Indictment has wreaked upon the Acela Media is its inducement of a 180-degree turn on prosecutions perceived to be political. It’s (D)ifferent, you see, now that Resistance FBI Director James Comey is going to face trial.

Watch as The New Yorker’s Dave Remnick expresses Strange New Dread for such processes on the most recent broadcast of NBC’s Meet the Depressed:

NBC MEET THE PRESS

9/28/28

10:36 AM

DAVID REMNICK: I think we should take the president at his word. It used to be in 2016 and Trump 1.0, I guess, that it was considered the height of wisdom that the press takes Trump literally and the people take him seriously, and then vice versa. I think it’s possible to do both at the same time. The president is telling us that he has an enemies list that he’s going to act on. He’s told us who is on the enemies list: John Bolton, Letitia James, Fani Willis ought to be on her guard- and many more whether they’re in the press or civic society. I think this is a real emergency, and it should be taken seriously, and know that he’s going to act on it. It’s not just blather out on the White House lawn. That’s the difference between the first term and the second term. The first term was filled with impulses and the second term is efficient, ruthless and it’s happening every day. This movement toward authoritarianism is very distinct and needs to be taken seriously. This is not just a normal, you know, we talked about a budget battle. That’s normal politics. This is something extraordinary.

This is but the latest contortion for the noted Obama sycophant, who among other things said that the future of the Earth hung on Trump’s impeachment. This little bit of that 2019 segment with Brian Stelter sticks out (emphasis mine):

REMNICK: And right now you have a country that is split, and to great frustration of people like you and people like me, we don’t somehow understand. We don’t understand why the evidence of things, why facts don’t penetrate so many of our brothers and sisters in the United States of America. And this is a source of great frustration for the press.

In the Year of Our Lord 2025, one might reasonably wonder why Remnick hasn’t yet been penetrated by the stream of facts leading to Comey’s indictment. But the fact is that there is a body of evidence, and there is an indictment handed down by a grand jury.

There was a whole lot of “extraordinary” leading up to this moment that Remnick cheered and celebrated. Now that the show is on the other foot, he reminds us that if it weren’t for double standards, the Acela Media would have none at all.
