Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara agreed to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s defense team following an invitation from President Isaac Herzog last week, the A-G’s office said in a Sunday statement.
Herzog’s invitation was intended to initiate preliminary discussions on a possible plea bargain in the criminal trial against Netanyahu over cases 1000 to 4000, which have been ongoing for several years.
In the attorney-general’s response to the invitation, she stated that she would agree to the meeting only on the condition that there would be no preconditions to the discussion and that Netanyahu’s trial would continue to progress.
