Scientists from Edinburgh University studied the data of more than 22 thousand adults and established: a tendency to activity, composure and readiness to help others is associated with a longer life expectancy. On the contrary, increased anxiety and irritability can shorten it.
About this writes The Guardian.
Researchers did not divide the participants into traditional psychological types, but analyzed the words with which people described their own character. It turned out that such definitions as “energetic” or “active” turn out to be more accurate indicators of life expectancy than the usual categories like extraversion or introversion.
The most convincing predictor of longevity was the word “active”. For those who chose this definition for themselves, the probability of death during the observation period was 21% lower.
In addition, people who called themselves organized, disciplined and responsible were inclined to a longer life. At the same time, characteristics with a negative shade – for example, “alarming”, “capricious” or “easily falling into despondency” – were more often found in those who died before.
The authors of the study emphasize that we are not talking about inevitability. Personal characteristics affect everyday behavior, namely, it is reflected in health. So, organized people, as a rule, are more attentive to the regime and recommendations of doctors, and active leads to a more mobile lifestyle and do better with stressful situations.
In the future, such characteristics can become part of innovative medical instruments. Psychological questionnaires are able to supplement standard methods for assessing the health status and help identify those who need additional support to maintain well -being and prevention of chronic diseases.
“Cursor” also said that Doctors called two drinks that significantly prolong human life. Scientists argue that only two drinks can reduce the tendency to chronic diseases and help increase the chance of longevity.
