Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out Wednesday at journalists who claimed that Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, and his son, Yair, interfered in the appointment of the Military Advocate General Itay Offir.
In a post on social media platform X, Netanyahu accused Yinon Magal and Amit Segal of having an “obsession with repeatedly harming” his wife and son.
On Monday, Netanyahu reportedly urged Defense Minister Israel Katz to reverse Offir’s appointment as new top legal chief for the IDF – a decision that senior Likud officials said was made without prior coordination with the prime minister.

Offir, who was a former legal adviser to the Defense Ministry, is set to take over the position previously held by Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, who was removed from her position over the leak of a video allegedly showing abuse of a Palestinian detainee last month. According to the defense minister’s statement, Offir’s appointment was signed off on Sunday, and he is scheduled to assume office in two weeks.
Channel 12 News reported Monday that the prime minister told Katz “he expects the appointment not to be finalized,” after his son, Yair Netanyahu, lashed out against Offir’s appointment.

“Haven’t Yinon and Amit smeared Sara and Yair enough that they feel the need to join the chorus of vicious evil against them?” he wrote. “Like any person, and like any leader in the world, I return home, and during the little private time I have, I speak with my family. I hear their opinion, just as I hear the opinion of many others, and afterward I make the decisions.”
Throughout the post, the prime minister praised his wife, stressing, “It is no accident that the phrase ‘Sara was right’ is being heard more and more across the public. For all these reasons, I want to make clear: Harming my family, which gives me the strength and support to continue leading, is harming me.”
