Police find over 20 toddlers at unlicensed daycare center in Jerusalem

Israel Police discovered over 20 toddlers being cared for in an unlicensed and illegal daycare center in Jerusalem, police announced on Sunday.

During an investigation into a separate, unrelated case, the police arrived at an apartment in Givat Shaul, where they found the illegal daycare, containing around 25 toddlers, managed by a man and a woman.

The couple was detained for interrogation at the police station and later released under restrictive conditions.

The police also announced that they had caught and arrested the suspect related to their original investigation, which led them to the daycare.

Earlier this month, police arrested a kindergarten director and her husband, both residents of Tel Aviv in their 60s, on suspicion of committing sexual offenses against children in their care.

Following the arrests, the police confirmed that the kindergarten was functioning without the proper permits from municipal authorities and the Education Ministry.

In an incident at a daycare center in Jerusalem’s Romema neighborhood in January, two babies died, and at least 55 more small children sustained injuries from respiratory distress after the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency services were called to the site.

The Jerusalem daycare was also confirmed to be operating without the proper permits from municipal authorities and the Education Ministry.

Shoshana Baker contributed to this report.
