In what was a nervy affair, Liverpool managed to secure a 1-0 win over RB Leipzig, with Darwin Nunez’s goal in the 27th minute proving to be the difference between the two sides. While it was a tougher than expected victory for the Reds, it was also a credit to goalkeeper Kevin Kelleher, who made several crucial saves to ensure the shutout at the other end.
Kelleher’s heroics were overshadowed only by Nunez’s clinical finish, which was set up by a clever pass from Kostas Tsimikas. The Uruguayan’s movement and finishing were both on point, as he made the most of a Геffortful Liverpool attack that had been struggling to create clear-cut chances.
The talking point of the match, however, was Kelleher’s outstanding display in goal. The Dubliner was called into action only a handful of times, but when he was, he proved himself to be more than up to the task. His kick-save to deny Benjamin Sesko was particularly impressive, as was his tip-over of a deflected Xavi Simons shot just a minute later. He even came out to collect a loose ball and almost turned it into a counter-attacking opportunity.
The Liverpool defence, marshaled by the ever-impressive Virgil van Dijk, was also impressive, with Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander-Arnold providing solid support. The English right-back, in particular, was a box-to-box presence, making a number of runs down the flank and causing problems for the Leipzig defence.
The RB Leipzig camp, meanwhile, were left to rue what might have been. They had their share of moments, including a late chance for Amadou Haidara that was saved well by Kelleher. But, for the most part, Liverpool’s backline held firm, with the exceptions noted above.
In the end, it was a win that felt more comfortable than it was, thanks to Kelleher’s heroics. For Arne Slot’s Liverpool, it was all about taking another three points in the Champions League, and seeing their side continue its impressive start to the season.
