Lazio, Baroni confirms: "Racist howling at Tchaouna by Twente fans"

The European football tour landed in the Netherlands, where the Italian-based team, Lazio, took on the Dutch side, Twente, in an intense Europa League match. The match, which was closely monitored by the international community, witnessed several moments of tension, but ultimately resulted in a victory for Lazio.

Marco Baroni, Lazio’s coach, spoke to Sky Sport about the match, revealing that the team’s preparation and determination played a crucial role in their success. “Everything went well tonight because the team prepared well for a complicated match even when we were with the extra man,” he said. “I told the boys that I expected a test of personality because we had to close it out, I’m very happy for Gigot who is a strong player.”

The coach also praised the team’s mental toughness, stating that they were able to maintain their focus and composure throughout the match. “I like a team that plays everything on one ball and this is a mental aspect that also allows you to find beauty,” he explained. “There have been moments in which we should have done better, but the team knows this. I like to stimulate the team because they understand and I also provoke them a little. This is a team that must defend itself by attacking.”

In a concerning revelation, Baroni confirmed that Tchaouna, a Lazio player, was subjected to racist insults from the Twente fans. “We’re always there a bit, I think he heard some howling, it’s a topic that I don’t like to expose because it’s not the right context but I can confirm this,” he said. “We tried to reassure him.”

Despite the setbacks, Lazio emerged victorious, and the win marked their third consecutive Europa League victory. As they look to the next match, the team’s coach remains optimistic. “Now we’ve brought him back in for all intents and purposes -Bashiru needs to create a path, but he is a boy with qualities and I am convinced that he will grow exponentially,” Baroni said. With their energy and determination, Lazio appears poised for a strong finish in the European tournament.
