20-year-old sombr kept his breakout year rolling at Coachella, bringing out Billy Idol and Steve Stevens for a rendition of “Eyes Without a Face,” and covering Radiohead’s The Bends standout, “Fake Plastic Trees.”
The Coachella Weekend Two livestream found Idol in good voice and Stevens looking swaggy during a song that demanded little of his guitar. Meanwhile sombr played with the rockier edges of vocals that sound comfortable with everything from punk to pop. His falsetto soared on “Fake Plastic Trees,” and I hope everyone in the crowd enjoyed it, because as much as sombr sings about smoking cigarettes, those notes might not be available to him for too many more years. Check out clips from the covers below.

This summer sombr will embark on an expansive North American tour (get tickets here). As for Idol and Stevens, they’ve got an upcoming tour of their own, and both will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame later this year.
