Microsoft will change the standard keyboard for the first time in almost 30 years – what awaits users

For the first time in almost 30 years, Microsoft will change the standard keyboard by adding a new key.

Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and marketing director of the corporation, spoke about this.

New laptops and desktop keyboards will now have a new key that launches Microsoft Copilot. This is an AI assistant that the company created.

“The introduction of the Copilot key marks the first significant change to the keyboard in nearly three decades. This will not only make it easier for people to use computers, but also expand their efficiency, making 2024 the year of the PC with artificial intelligence. Copilot will be the entry point into the world of artificial intelligence,” Mehdi said.

A Microsoft vice president said that when users press the Copilot key on their Windows 11 devices, an AI assistant interface will appear.

The capabilities of this operating system are already available to users, and they can use them in various areas – from improving search through Bing to increasing the efficiency of working with Microsoft 365 Apps.

For example, in Word, Copilot helps you create and edit text, while in PowerPoint, it transforms text documents into presentations using tooltips or short descriptions. If Copilot is not available on a specific device, pressing the key launches Windows search.

Mehdi said the first computers with the Copilot key on the keyboard will appear in the next few weeks. They will be available by the end of February or early spring.

Cursor previously reported on a new feature in Windows 11 that you didn’t know about.
