For Anthony Deschepper, the curtain came down on his troubled life at Gale’s Gas Bar in Niagara Falls early Wednesday morning.

The 36-year-old was gunned down by Niagara Regional Police in a shootout, or what cops euphemistically call an “interaction.” Deschepper was dead at the scene, shot multiple times by a lone officer.

Happily, no cops were wounded.

Deschepper, like a long roster of Canadian criminals, was out on bail when the shooting started, and detectives recovered his gun at the scene. Now, the SIU, Ontario’s police watchdog, is investigating.

Deschepper’s bloody finale ended 12.5 hours of brutal violence allegedly unleashed by the Brampton man.

According to Peel Regional Police, Deschepper began the day by allegedly attending a Brampton strip mall at Queen St. E. and Airport Rd. around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Cops say the suspect shot his former female partner, Savannah Kulla, 29, multiple times, and she died at the scene.

Kulla was a mother of four.

FEMALE ACCOMPLICE

Deschepper and an alleged female accomplice then fled in a black 2024 Nissan Kicks with Quebec plates. His one-year-old daughter he shared with Kulla was in the back seat, prompting cops to issue an Amber Alert, although she had been safely dropped off with family.

But detectives knew who they were looking for.

Next, police issued a shelter-in-place order for Crystal Beach and Fort Erie. Then, in the early morning hours on the outskirts of Niagara Falls, the suspected Brampton killer was issued a one-way ticket to the morgue, courtesy of the NRP.

But were the violent events over the past day inevitable? At least one detective believes that Deschepper getting his ticket punched was written in the stars. Savannah Kulla, cruelly executed in Brampton? Her four young children will now be without their mother? No, that was not “inevitable” — if the system had done its job.

MURDER WASN’T ‘INEVITABLE’

Their individual tragedies all come down to criminally out-of-touch judges and others.

“If you continue to release these sorts of people, events like this are going to happen. It’s inevitable,” one detective, who requested anonymity, told The Toronto Sun on Wednesday. “There are so many people out there like this; no community is safe. And now, because of the broken bail system, a young woman has paid with her life.”

In 2023, Deschepper spent almost four weeks on the run following a Brampton shooting incident where a house was riddled with bullets. Cops warned he was “armed and dangerous” and that he should not be approached. That declaration was prophetic.

GUN-RELATED CHARGES

Law enforcement eventually caught up with the shooter in Waterloo, and he was hit with a slew of gun-related charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession contrary to order. At the time, he was residing at No Fixed Address Avenue.

And then, he was released on bail. As it has always been.

At the time of this latest incident, the alleged shooter was facing trial in a violent gun incident involving the same woman.
