Yes just announced that the new season of Fauda, one of the most popular Israeli series of all time, will premiere on Yes Action and Yes VOD in Israel on May 18, when the first two episodes will drop.
After that, one episode of the 11-episode fifth season will be released per week. The season will later be shown internationally on Netflix, on a date yet to be announced.
What we know about the closely guarded plot of the upcoming season of the series about an Israeli counter-terrorism unit headed by fearless commando Doron Kavillio (Lior Raz, who co-created the series with Avi Issacharoff), is that regulars Itzik Cohen, Doron Ben-David, and Yaakov Zada Daniel will be returning. They will be joined by a new big name, French star Mélanie Laurent, who played Shoshana Dreyfus in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
One familiar face who will not be returning, except possibly in a cameo, is actor/singer Idan Amedi. Amedi was called up for reserve duty in the Gaza War and was badly injured in January 2024. He has since recovered but has said that he will give priority to his singing career, rather than to acting.
Raz and Avi Issacharoff have said that they already had a storyline for the fifth season ready to go in 2023, but scrapped it following the Hamas attack on October 7 and rewrote the episodes to reflect the massacre and the subsequent war.
Titles in the trailer promise, “Revenge is just the starting point.”
The series, which started mainly on the West Bank in its first season, has moved around geographically a great deal. The third season featured key episodes set in Gaza, and the fourth season moved among Brussels, Lebanon, Jenin, and Ramla. In the fifth season, based on the trailer, Doron and his colleagues head to Marseilles for an off-the-grid mission that officials will deny knowledge of if they are caught. Doron, wrapped in a keffiyeh, joins protesters at a pro-Palestine march, as another character comments, “This isn’t Provence.”
“If we don’t do this, this day will haunt us for the rest of our lives,” says one of the characters as they undertake their latest mission.
