Eriksen’s honest answer on systems

As the beautiful game takes to the pitch, it’s not just the players who are on the move, it’s the systems too. Every game is a chance to mix and match, to change up the formation, to keep the opposition on their toes. And according to one seasoned pro, it’s all about adaptability.

“I think every game is different,” he says. “I think every game you’re going to see a so-called 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2, 4-5-1. You’re going to see all of it, I think, at times in the game, but I’m just happy wherever the ball is.”

But it’s not just about the formation on the field, it’s also about the atmosphere off the pitch. Turkey’s stadiums are infamous for their raucous crowds, and our player in question has had his fair share of experiences. “Yeah, I’ve played in Turkey. It’s a lot of years ago, with the national team against Turkey. So I know what it’s like to play in Turkey. But obviously I missed the Galatasaragame last season, where I think we saw up close how the atmosphere could be.”

He’s looking forward to experiencing it again tomorrow, when Fenerbahce faces off in a highly anticipated match. “I think it’ll be very similar to the atmosphere last season. But like the coach said, I think we enjoy playing in these environments. And I think when you, after a few minutes of the game has been going on, I think just continue playing football and yeah, it’s nice that people are following it and giving it a bit of a good atmosphere at the same time.”
