Canada announced a revision of relations with Israel due to a blow in Doha

Canada is reviewing his relationship with Israel after Hamas’s leadership hits in Qatar, the consequences of which Not yet clear. On Wednesday, on September 10, the head of the Canadian Foreign Ministry Anita Anand said, explaining that “the government is evaluating the consequences of this event for ties between the two countries,” but did not specify possible steps.

The former Israeli ambassador to Canada Nimrod Barcan noted that “a decrease in the level of relations is a step of difficult” for Ottava. According to him, this will be perceived as a too tough measure that can complicate the position of Canada and within the country, and in interaction with the allies. Instead, Barcan emphasized, there is a milder option – “Review of the ambassador for consultations for a long time.” Such a step allows the Canadians to “transmit a clear signal” to Israel, while maintaining diplomatic flexibility, the ability to coordinate positions with Europeans and avoid an irreversible crisis in relations.

US President Donald Trump at a briefing in Washington reacted to the Israeli blow to the headquarters of Hamas in Doha: “I am completely dissatisfied with the Israeli blow in Qatar.” And he added: “I am not enthusiastic about this. I am not enthusiastic about the whole situation. This is a bad situation. But I will say this: we want to return the hostages, but we are not enthusiastic about how events have developed today.”

Later, when he was asked if he was surprised, Trump answered: “Nothing surprises me, especially when it comes to the Middle East. I will say this: I was very unhappy with this. And we must return the hostages.” Trump also claimed that the United States did not receive a preliminary warning about the blow.

The blow in Doha caused numerous convictions in the West, including from France President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Kira Starmer, German Foreign Minister Johanna Woodfol and Pope. In their statements, the leaders warned that the violation of the sovereignty of Qatar could lead to a regional escalation, and called for the immediate cessation of fire and an increase in humanitarian aid of gas.

Earlier, Canada announced the intention to recognize the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly, but on the condition: holding universal elections without Hamas and the obligatory disarmament of the future state. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carny then accused the Israeli government of “allowing a disaster in gas to grow.”
