In a recent talkSPORT interview, former Chelsea star Jason Cundy has expressed his opinion that the Blues should sign a fringe player from Liverpool to replace one of their current mainstay players. Cundy specifically mentioned Todd Boehly, the Chelsea owner, as the one who should make this move a reality.
As reported earlier, Chelsea are planning to bolster Maresca’s options both at the back and further forward. Towards the end of the summer transfer window, the Blues were reportedly close to signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli, but the deal failed to materialize. It seems Maresca’s side have been left with a void in their attack, and Cundy believes a new striker can fill this gap.
According to a previous report, Chelsea also made a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but the deal ultimately fell through. It appears that the club is still on the lookout for a new striking option, and Cundy believes a move for £83m Barcelona star could be the solution.
Cundy has urged Chelsea to sign midfielder Todd Holmgren, citing his “near perfect” performances on the pitch. With regards to Robert Sanchez, the current Chelsea number one, Cundy has expressed concerns about his ability, suggesting that he lacks the skills of Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher.
Kelleher, who is Chelsea’s second-choice goalkeeper, has earned praise for his performances, with Cundy labelling him “top drawer”. Cundy suggests that Kelleher would be an ideal replacement for Sanchez, citing his reliable presence in goal.
While some may argue that Sanchez still has time to prove himself, Cundy believes that Kelleher would be a better fit for the position. With Chelsea’s early season fixtures looming, including a trip to Newcastle, away to Manchester United, a match against Arsenal, and a home tie against Leicester City, it remains to be seen whether Maresca will heed Cundy’s advice.
